A newly released book, &#8220;Social Media Across Everyday Contexts &#8211; Digital Childhood and Youth in the Nordics&#8221;, co-authored by researchers Malene Charlotte Larsen and Stine Liv Johansen, offers an in-depth exploration of how social media shape the lives of children and young people in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"spacing--medium\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Covering a wide range of topics &#8211; including play, learning, social relationships, identity, self-presentation, and gaming &#8211; the book also tackles more complex issues such as sexuality and datafication. Through a practice theoretical lens, the researchers provide nuanced insights into the complex relationship between children, youth, and social media.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The book features contributions from guest authors &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hf.uio.no\/imk\/personer\/vit\/estaksru\/\">Elisabeth Staksrud<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uv.uio.no\/iped\/personer\/vit\/olae\/\">Ola Erstad<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utu.fi\/en\/people\/sanna-spisak\">Sanna Spisak<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forskning.ku.dk\/soeg\/result\/profil\/?id=52914\">Anne Mette Thorhauge<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/research.ku.dk\/search\/result\/profile\/?id=16732\">Andreas Gregersen<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; each offering specialised expertise that enriches the discussion on digital childhood and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Co-author&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pure.au.dk\/portal\/da\/persons\/stineliv%40cc.au.dk\">Stine Liv Johansen<\/a>&nbsp;highlights the importance of the research, stating: &#8220;Debates around children\u2019s media use are often fuelled by strong and sometimes emotional opinions, not least in the Nordic countries where media technologies are widespread and children are heavy social media users from a young age. That&#8217;s why it is crucial to have research-based insights into how young people engage with new media, and we are proud that our book provides exactly that&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vbn.aau.dk\/da\/persons\/malenel\">Malene Charlotte Larsen<\/a>&nbsp;adds: &#8220;Drawing on over two decades of our own research, we have sought to provide a broader understanding of children&#8217;s and young people&#8217;s digital lives.
