Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

The student shall meet the following learning outcomes, which cover knowledge and understanding, skills

and abilities as well as judgement and approach. On completion of the course, the student should be able

to:

Knowledge and understanding

understand the relationship between research funding and research career

understand the expectations of researchers and their employers in relation to external funding

acquisition

understand the basic dierences and similarities between planning a research project, writing a

paper, and writing a competitive application for funding

have an overview of research funding strategies and possibilities in relation to career development

understand the correlated dimensions to be considered in a research application, such as budget,

ethics, intellectual property rights, data management, research dissemination and exploitation

Skills and abilities

apply tools and techniques to formulate a research idea/proposal

analyze and answer research funding calls

plan and organize research applications

Judgment and approach

critically reect on the relationship between research, funding acquisition, and societal relevance

critically assess dierent funding sources and their potential inuence on research output

problematize ethical dilemmas related to research funding.

Content

Introduction to funding landscapes

Techniques and language to eectively articulate and structure research projects and applications

Strategic approaches to research application preparation

Research impact, involving expected outcomes, relevance, and research communication,

dissemination, and exploitation

Research implementation, including project plan, risk assessment, and budget allocation

Related components of a research application, including ethics, intellectual property rights, data

management

Type of instruction

An intensive 5-day program combining lectures, seminars, exercises performed individually and in groups,

culminanting in a research proposal pitch.

Language of instruction is in English.
