News literacy, in line with media (and information) literacy, has<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

become an urgent global concern in a media environment marked by<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

information abundance, platformization, declining trust in news, the<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

growing visibility of disinformation, and widening inequalities in<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

access to reliable public knowledge. As young people and other<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

audiences increasingly encounter news through social media,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

influencers, messaging apps, and algorithmically curated feeds, the<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

need for educational approaches that support critical engagement<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

with news has become more pressing. At the same time, while the<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

role of school education continues to be central, news literacy<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

education remains unevenly conceptualized and implemented across<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

national, linguistic, and institutional contexts.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collection invites contributions on the pedagogies of news<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

literacy from across the world. It aims to consolidate emerging<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

scholarship on news literacy education by bringing together research<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

on policy frameworks, curricular design and development, didactics,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

professional and civic identities, institutional challenges, and<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

innovative pedagogical solutions. In particular, the collection seeks<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

to explore how different countries and educational systems have<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

responded to transformations in journalism and the broader media<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

environment, and what kinds of educational interventions appear<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

most meaningful, effective, and context-sensitive.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By foregrounding pedagogical perspectives, this collection seeks to advance international dialogue on how news<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

literacy can be theorized, taught, and adapted to diverse social contexts, while identifying promising practices for<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

education in a changing media landscape.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
