The one-day virtual event brings together almost 40 young scholars to discuss their PhD projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/nordmedianetwork.org\/nordmedia-conference-2021\/preconference\/\">NordMedia pre-conference 2021<\/a> will take place just before the <a href=\"https:\/\/nordmedianetwork.org\/nordmedia-conference-2021\/\">main conference<\/a>, on Tuesday 17 August. It is the third pre-conference organized for junior scholars in attachment to NordMedia, which is the largest media research event hold since the 1970s. The first pre-conference was hold in Tampere in 2016, the second one in Malm\u00f6 in 2019. The third volume will be virtual because of the entire conference was forced to go online because of the prevailing covid-19 conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There will be 38 doctoral students participating with their papers: 14 from Sweden, 12 from Norway, 6 from Denmark, 5 from Finland and 1 from beyond the Nordic countries. In total, 31 senior scholars have been invited to comment on these junior researchers papers that are related to their PhD theses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the pre-conference, each participant will present a piece related to his or her PhD thesis and receive feedback for it, both from a senior Nordic media researcher and from peers. The workshop is led by <strong>Maarit Jaakkola<\/strong>, co-director at Nordicom, and <strong>Karin Zelano<\/strong>, scientific editor of <em>Nordicom Review<\/em>. The schedule can be seen <a href=\"https:\/\/nordmedianetwork.org\/app\/uploads\/2021\/08\/schedule-aug-17-2021.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of the pre-conference is not only to support junior scholars in their doctoral studies but also to introduce junior scholars top the Nordic community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 It is highly relevant for emerging media scholars around the Nordic countries to develop a Nordic sense of community and to nurture the connections based on a common cultural, geographical and linguistic base. We regard the pre-conference as an important entry point into the Nordic academic community.
