Call for Submission to ECREA Pre-Conference:  Trends and Challenges in Nordic Journalism (Research)

Date and venue: Wednesday, October, 19th, 2022, 12pm-4pm, Danish School of Media and Journalism (DJMX), Aarhus

In recent years, established journalistic institutions, norms, and practices have come under pressure – also in the Nordic ‘media welfare states’. The climate and #MeToo movement have challenged established norms of objectivity, digitalization and platformization have fundamentally altered journalistic business models and news consumption, and concerns for increasing political interference and an erosion of arm’s-length-regulation are growing. This pre-conference addresses how the changing nature of and conditions for Nordic journalism impacts on how a new generation of journalism researchers will (need to) rethink their object of study.

The pre-conference invites early career media and journalism researchers that work on research topics with relevance to journalism in the Nordic countries to present and discuss their latest research and to exchange their experiences and challenges. The pre-conference is organized and sponsored by Journalistica – the Nordic Journal of Journalism Research.

The pre-conference is free of charge and includes a light lunch. To register for the pre-conference, interested participants should send an extended abstract (ca. 500 words) to evamay@ruc.dk  by May, 15st, 2022. Participants will be notified of their acceptance by June 1st.  Full papers should be sent to all participants by October, 1st, 2022. All participants will be invited to submit their papers to a special issue of Journalistica, to be published in Spring 2023. For more information on the journal’s profile and editors, see https://tidsskrift.dk/journalistica.
