Doctoral student, discuss your work with senior scholars, expand your academic network, and prepare for a future career in academia. Participate in the NordMedia2021 Pre-conference!
The call for abstracts for the NordMedia2021 Pre-conference for Doctoral Students is now open.
The NordMedia organizing committee (the University of Iceland in cooperation with Nordicom and national Nordic research associations) cordially invite doctoral students of media and communication sciences from all Nordic countries to submit proposals. The preconference will provide a collegial and friendly forum to meet and discuss your ongoing work with senior scholars and peers.
The one-day pre-conference event will take place on 17 August 2021 and will focus on providing constructive feedback as well as skills development.
Submission
Apply by submitting your application by 10 March 2021 via the conference submission system ExOrdo, which will be open for submissions in mid-January (a link will be added on this page).
Abstract proposals should include the following information:
- Abstract. The abstract should be max. 600 words, written in English or a Scandinavian language (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish), and include a paragraph explaining how the text fits in with your overall PhD thesis project.
- Potential discussants. Include the name of one or two Nordic scholars from whom you would like to receive comments. We cannot guarantee that who you suggest will be able to comment but will take your suggestions into account when searching for senior scholars for discussants.
- Personal information. Name, contact details and institutional affiliation, along with a note on where you are in the PhD process (e.g., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.) and the supervisors’ names.
The selected participants will be asked to submit a full academic paper by 30 June 2021. The paper can be an article manuscript or a chapter to be included in the doctoral thesis, written in English or a Scandinavian language. The working language in the pre-conference is English.
Admission cost
The doctoral pre-conference is free of charge, but participants must pay their own travel and accommodation costs. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to panel sessions at NordMedia conference without paying the conference fee.
