Doctoral students from the Nordic countries and/or with Nordic relevance in their research interest are welcome to join the one-day pre-conference of the NordMedia2023 Conference on 15 August 2023. Discuss your work with senior scholars, expand your academic network, and prepare for a future career in academia!
The NordMedia organizing committee (University of Bergen in cooperation with Nordicom and national Nordic research associations) cordially invite doctoral students of media and communication sciences from all Nordic countries to submit abstract proposals for the NordMedia2023 Preconference for Doctoral Students. The pre-conference will provide a collegial and friendly forum to meet and discuss your ongoing work with senior scholars and peers.
The one-day pre-conference will take place on 15 August 2023 and will focus on providing constructive feedback as well as skills development.
Submission
Apply by submitting your application by 15 February 2023 via the conference submission system ExOrdo. You must choose to submit to the track named “Pre-Conference for Doctoral Students”.
Abstract proposals should include the following information:
- Abstract. The abstract should be not more than 500 words, written in English or a
Scandinavian language, and include a paragraph explaining how the text fits in with your
overall PhD thesis project. - Potential discussants. Include the name of one or two Nordic scholars from whom you would
like to receive comments. We cannot guarantee that who you suggest will be able to
comment but will take your suggestions into account when searching for senior scholars for
discussants. - Personal information. Name, contact details and institutional affiliation, along with a note on
where you are in the PhD process (e.g., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.) and the supervisors’ names.
Choice of participants
The number of participants in the doctoral pre-conference is limited to 25 participants in total. Submission authors are noticed about their acceptance by 4 April 2023. The selected participants will be asked to submit a full academic paper by 23 June 2023. The paper can be an article manuscript or a chapter to be included in the doctoral thesis. More detailed instructions for paper submission are sent to the selected participants.
Admission cost
The doctoral pre-conference is free of charge, but participants must pay their own travel and accommodation costs. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to panel sessions at NordMedia conference without paying the conference fee.
