Interested in Media Use Studies? New Book Will Guide You Through the Research

Media and technology wield significant influence over society, but how can we understand what media mean in people’s lives? A new book written by researchers from the University of Bergen provides insights into methodologies for understanding media use.

– Media are crucial for how we stay updated on what’s happening in the world around us, share experiences, and communicate with each other, says Hallvard Moe, a professor at the University of Bergen (UiB). And adds: It’s important to understand and explain the role of media in society, considering its implications for politics, human freedom, our culture, the environment, and climate.

Together with Brita Ytre-Arne, also a professor at UiB, Moe has written a book that offers a comprehensive overview of methods for studying media use.

– The book is suitable for students at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well for researchers conducting small and large projects on media use, emphasises Brita Ytre-Arne.

The work provides both groups with the necessary tools to conduct studies on media use. It guides readers through the entire research process, from formulating research questions and research design to data collection, analysis, and dissemination, while also considering ethics and privacy.

– We want readers to feel welcome and invited into media use research, where there is much more to discover, the authors add.

The book, written in Norwegian, is published by Universitetsforlaget and can be purchased here.
