Postdoc Candidates Interested in Applying for an MSCA Individual Fellowship in Journalism Studies

Karlstad University, Sweden (KAU) has established a process to recruit excellent researchers under the Marie Skƚodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (MSCA-IF) programme. We are inviting expressions of interest from researchers wishing to apply for an MSCA-IF in the field of Journalism Studies to be hosted at KAU. These expressions of interest will be assessed at KAU, and one candidate will be selected to write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-IF.

This call is one of nine from pre-selected supervisors at KAU. Successful candidates in this ‘expression of interest’ call will be invited to Karlstad (travel and accommodation will be covered) for a mandatory two-day MSCA-IF workshop on 20–21 April 2020. At this event, the candidates will present their research, discuss project plans with their potential supervisor, and receive advice on how to write a successful MSCA-IF application. The selected candidates will, in cooperation with their supervisor, write an application to be submitted in the 2020 MSCA-IF call (projected deadline 9 September 2020).

With this call, we aim to recruit a researcher within the field of Journalism Studies to conduct an MSCA-IF project under the supervision of Professor Henrik Örnebring.

Professor Örnebring is the Director of NODE (the Ander Centre for Research on News and Opinion in the Digital Era) and a senior member of the KAU Geomedia Research Group (a cross-disciplinary group that gathers scholars from Media Studies, Human Geography, Tourism Studies and Film Studies). He is currently developing research in three main areas:

  • Precarious/atypical employment in journalism and its effects;
  • The cultural and political role of local journalism;
  • The application of theories and concepts from human geography to the study of journalism.
  • Priority is given to project proposals in any of these three areas, but excellent projects in other areas of Journalism Studies will also be considered.

Please send your CV (max three pages), a cover letter explaining why you wish to apply for an MSCA-IF at Karlstad University (one page) and an outline for a research project that would strengthen and complement the presented research profile (max 1000 words) to GIO@kau.se by 6 March 2020. Selected candidates will be informed by 16 March. Please include “KAU MSCA” in the subject line of your email.

Deadline for applications: 6 March 2020
