The University of Stavanger is seeking to appoint a Professor/Associate professor of documentary production. The position is organisationally affiliated to the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Media and Social Sciences.
As a Professor/Associate Professor, you will primarily teach and supervise students at bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level within the subject area, conduct artistic development work or research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department, and contribute to the development of partnerships with businesses.
You will also lead the development/use of digital and diverse learning methods, innovation, value creation based on results from research and academic work.

Qualification requirements
We are seeking a high-level documentary producer who can also teach documentary concepts and principles at the intersections of documentary production, documentary theory, journalism, and media studies, with an overall emphasis on the latest directions in non-fiction storytelling.
Your main area of documentary expertise can be film, radio/podcasts, multimedia, or literary journalism (or any combination of these), and you should be able to teach documentary production and non-fiction storytelling across multiple media platforms. As a documentary producer (within any genre) you must be able to show results in artistic development and/or research.
You must have a high level of scientific and/or artistic expertise in accordance with established professorship/associate professor standards within the subject area.
Recent publications and potential for future artistic development work or research at a high academic level within the subject area will be given priority.
You must be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills relating to higher education, and basic skills in planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. If you do not meet the competence requirement, the university may consider offering employment with a requirement to complete a university pedagogy course within a period of two years. The course will be provided by the university.
For employment as a professor, you must be able to document quality development in teaching and supervision, broad supervisory experience (preferably at master’s and doctoral level) and participation in the development of educational quality in the academic community
The work and teaching languages are Norwegian and English. If you do not have a good command of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, you must acquire Norwegian language skills equivalent to level B2 within three years from appointment. If required, you will be offered a Norwegian course paid for by the university.

- record of artistic production or disseminating research in recognised Norwegian and international publications, and evidence of progression in research or artistic development and publication

- ability to involve and engage students so that course objectives, content and assessment situations are closely interlinked
- experience and/or interest in developing varied learning methods and digital tools in teaching
- experience of partnerships with businesses
- experience with relevant international networks and the ability to build and nurture networks—regionally, nationally and internationally
- experience with innovation and the commercialisation of research or artistic development work
- ability to manage a heavy workload, inquisitiveness, and motivation to develop new knowledge in collaboration with others
- good teamwork and communication skills, and ability to contribute to a constructive work environment
Qualifying position
In the absence of applicants with sufficient qualifications as professor/associate professor, the university may consider temporarily designating an appointee for up to three years, during which time he/she will endeavour to gain the qualifications necessary for a permanent position.

General information
Your application will be assessed by an expert committee. In the expert assessment, emphasis will be placed on:
- documented artistic activity/production or scientific production
- teaching experience and documented teaching competence
- leadership experience in artistic work or scientific production
The committee will also assess your experience with popularisation/dissemination activities, university politics and administration, and any other documented qualifications relevant to the position.
Applications that do not satisfy key qualification requirements may be rejected before being sent to the expert committee for assessment.
Based on the expert committee’s statement, short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview and trial lecture.

It is a prerequisite that the appointee makes residential arrangements that enables her or him to be present and available to the academic community during ordinary working hours.
