Professor of Aesthetic Culture

The Department of Communication and Arts (DCA), Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as Professor of Aesthetic Culture with a particular focus on French aesthetic theory. The position is available from February 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department of Communication and Arts is an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment, characterized by diversity with respect to theory, methods and areas of study in research and education. The department produces knowledge that contributes to critical research and reflexive practice in relation to development and change in society, including public institutions, private organizations, NGOs, cultural and media institutions.

Responsibilities and tasks

The professor’s main task is to undertake research and research-based teaching within the field of Aesthetic Culture and contribute to management and leadership through engagement in the Department.

The professor is expected to publish on an international level in distinguished and high-ranking outlets as well contribute to knowledge sharing with the Danish public and relevant stakeholders.

The applicant is expected to strengthen the interdisciplinary profile within the research field of Aesthetic Culture through the initiation and management of research projects, development of international networks and by applying for external research grants. 

The applicant is expected to inspire research achievement and to further develop the collaborative cross-disciplinary research environment which has been successfully established at the department.

It is also required that professor participate in post-doctoral training and take responsibility for the supervision of assistant professors as well as take part in academic assessments.

Finally, the candidate is also expected to engage in the department’s collaboration with local and regional stakeholders and to take responsibility for establishing new external collaborations. 

Qualifications 

The applicant must have a broad knowledge of aesthetic expressions and issues within the fields of literature and visual arts, with special qualifications in French philosophical aesthetics, both in recent times as well as in a historical perspective. 

The applicant must have a substantial, scientific production on high international level.

Research management experience and administrative experience is also a key qualification for professors at the DPA who are expected to contribute to the daily management of the department.

It is important that the applicant have cross-disciplinary qualifications and theoretical insight enabling him/her to initiate and participate in professional and research collaborations across narrow scientific boundaries.

The applicant must have relevant qualifications and experience in order to teach and supervise in cross-disciplinary educational programs at both BA, MA and PhD levels, such as the Bachelor of Humanities, using the Problem and Project Based Learning model used at Roskilde University.  

Conditions of Employment

The position as Professor will be filled according to the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. The post is a full-time position. The position is available from February 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Commencing salary will be minimum DKK 649.267,74 per year (1st April 2022 level) plus pension contribution (17,1 %). 

We expect the candidate to be able to teach and participate in research activities in Danish within two years of employment.
