We are looking for a studio master to support the teaching delivered in the Degree Programme in Theatre Arts and its multidisciplinary artistic research activities.
The Degree Programme in Theatre Arts is administered by the Communications Sciences Unit in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University. The programme provides students with multidisciplinary education in the actor’s art at the BA and MA levels. In addition, doctoral education is provided and research is conducted within the framework of the degree programme.
The Degree Programme in Theatre Arts provides students with research-based teaching that places a special emphasis on the art of acting and performance, as well as their changing operational environments. Our students practice the different fields, methods and techniques of acting and explore them in a variety of historical, cultural and philosophical contexts. They also make performances as a part of their studies.
Job description
The studio master will provide technological and artistic support to education in theatre arts and artistic research. The duties will include:
- Operating stage technology: Video, lighting and sound technology, possible new stage technologies and their interoperability. Maintenance and operation of theatre equipment at the student theatre Teatterimonttu and in rehearsal rooms and other temporary performance environments in collaboration with a team. Providing technical support in other teaching facilities
- Operating and planning the equipment and software used in the delivery of virtual teaching and virtual performances.
- Artistic design during performance projects.
- Participating in national and international projects relating to education in theatre arts and multidisciplinary artistic research, conducted in collaboration with internal and external partners, collaborative networks and stakeholders.
- Collaborating with stakeholders in the audio-visual industry.
Requirements
- An applicable bachelor’s degree in lighting and sound design or performance and theatre technology.
- Diverse work experience in the field of performing arts.
- An in-depth understanding of stage technology, especially video design and stage lighting.
- Practical experience of the procurement, maintenance and use of stage technology and equipment.
- Strong interaction and collaboration skills.
- Good oral and written proficiency in Finnish or English.
The following qualities will be considered an advantage
- Master’s degree in stage lighting and video design or sound design.
- Experience of using (and developing) remote technologies.
- Experience of developing performance technology and facilities from the perspective of teaching.
- Flexible approach to work.
- Other language skills.

The studio master’s salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System. The position is assigned to the job requirement level 8 (other staff). In addition to a job-specific pay component, our staff receive performance-based pay that depends on their experience and professional performance.
