We are now inviting applications for a Tenure Track position in Communication Studies. The position will be filled primarily as a fixed-term Assistant or Associate Professor position and offers an excellent opportunity to build a multifaceted academic career in a dynamic and international environment.
The position is based in the School of Marketing and Communication. The School of Marketing and Communication is a truly multidisciplinary community in which the challenges of business and society are viewed from the perspective of the individual, culture, and business. The School’s focus areas in research and education are international business, marketing, and communication.
Position description
The position is located in the discipline of communication studies. Research in communication studies explores communication as a human and a human-machine activity that enables interaction, keeps communities together, and creates a common understanding. We study the changing and dynamic features of communication from the points of view of organizational communication, digital media, and technical communication in combination with each other. One of our strengths is collaboration with other disciplines.
The focus area of the position is organizational communication, which can broadly be understood as social interaction that creates and sustains communities/communality. Strategic communication is also a part of this research field. The role of the person we are seeking is to further strengthen the research of organizational communication at both the discipline and the school level according to the guidelines set in the strategy of the University of Vaasa. The selected candidate also has the opportunity to participate in the activities of the interdisciplinary research platforms of the university in the fields of energy and sustainable development, digital economy, and innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Tenure track position is research-oriented, but also includes teaching, thesis supervision, seeking external funding for research projects and working in these projects as well as university administrative tasks. The teaching and supervision of the position is primarily intended to support the Bachelor’s programme in communication studies, the multi-disciplinary Master’s programme in communications and the Doctoral programme in social sciences.
Applicants are required to have an applicable doctoral degree together with excellent academic merit as well as evidence of the potential to produce high quality research, the teaching and supervision skills required in the position, and the ability to acquire external funding. In addition the successful candidate will have a broad network of collaborators and can show evidence of societal impact, scientific cooperation as well as international activities according to the career stage. Experience in development and administration within the academic community as well as pedagogical education are considered merits.
