Welcome to the home of the NordMedia Conference! On this site you will find everything you need to know about past, present, and future NordMedia conferences.

The upcoming conference, entitled Crisis and Resilience: Nordic Media Research in the Frontline, will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 18–20 August 2021. The local organizers at the University of Iceland are getting ready to welcome hundreds of Nordic media scholars to the capital, and at the same preparing for taking the conference online if the situation regarding the pandemic calls for it. Everything regarding NordMedia 2021, the venue, theme, program, registration, and submission of papers will be available on this site.

  • September 2020: Call for proposals for Temporary working groups (TWG)
  • December 2020: Call for abstracts
  • February 2021: Deadline for abstracts
  • March 2021: Decision of abstract acceptance
  • April 2021: Early bird registration opens
  • May 2021: Early bird ends
  • June  2021: Last cancellation without paying the fee

  • August 18–20 2021: NordMedia Conference in Reykjavik

The conference organization 


#NordMedia21 in Reykjavik is organized by the University of Iceland in cooperation with the national Nordic research associations and Nordicom. Suggestions and ideas about the conference can be sent to Nordicom at nordmedia@nordmedianetwork.org and will then be forwarded to the planning committee.

Pre-conference 2021

The NordMedia pre-conference is a one-day academic workshop for doctoral students in media and communication studies.

All conferences since 1979 have been documented by Nordicom. However, information about conferences before 1997 is available only in print.

About NordMedia

NordMedia has been held every second year since 1973. The conference migrates among the five Nordic countries, with each country hosting the conference every tenth year.
