NordMedia has been held every second year since 1973. The conference migrates among the five Nordic countries, and 2021 it’s Iceland´s turn. The conference will take place in Reykjavík on August 18–20th and is hosted by the University of Iceland. A one-day academic workshop for doctoral students in media and communication studies, precedes the main conference, on August 17th.
Local organizers are getting ready to welcome Nordic media scholars to Reykjavík and confident that we will be able to meet in person in August. Health authorities in Iceland now predict that by mid-year most Icelanders will have been vaccinated and hopefully restrictions at the borders will be lifted in time. However, if the situation regarding the pandemic calls for it NordMedia 2021 will be moved online. Whether or not that will be necessary will be decided in May, as by then we should have a clearer picture of the Covid-19 situation. The conference will not be hyprid, that is both on site in Reykjavík and a full blown online conference. However, if the pandemic prevents someone from attending, necessary arrangements will be made for participants to present their work if prevented from attending due to the pandemic.
All information regarding NordMedia 2021 will be available on this site. Until now organizers for each NordMedia conference have had to make a new conference site, but from now on NordMedia has a permanent home at the NordMedia Research Network. The new digital platform operated by Nordicom. There you will find all you need to know about the past, present and future NordMedia conferences.
The submission of abstracts for NordMedia 2021 is open and the deadline is
