Dr. Barek Hossain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Media
Studies at the University of Development Alternative (UODA), Bangladesh. He holds a PhD in
Mass Communications and Journalism from Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN).
His research focuses on digital media practices, platform cultures, media literacy, misinformation,
and the lived experience of communication technologies in the Global South. He is particularly
interested in how everyday users engage with short-form video, mobile entertainment, and
algorithmic platforms as part of their routines, emotional regulation, and social life. He has
published in peer-reviewed journals and has professional experience in journalism and media
training.
