Birgir Guðmundsson, Ph.D.

Birgir Guðmundsson is an Associate Professor of Media Studies at the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Akureyri. He has an MA degree in Political Studies from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and a PhD degree in political science from the University of Iceland, as well as a long background in journalism as a journalist and editor of newspapers in Iceland. His main research interests are in Political communication and the interaction of politics and media. He also has written extecively on the Icelandic media system in a digital age and on media history as well as local media in Iceland.
