The normative impacts of news coverage of climate emergency in journalism: commitment and distancing

About

I am a PhD candidate in Communication Sciences at the University of Coimbra, where my research examines how the climate emergency challenges core journalistic values and whether it calls for a normative reconfiguration of the profession, as well as the implications of such shifts for journalistic practice and the public sphere.

I hold a BA in Journalism from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and an MSc in Administration from UDESC, including an academic exchange at the University of Bologna, where I developed an interest in European media systems and democratic communication.

My trajectory combines more than 20 years of professional experience in Brazilian local journalism, public-sector communication and media advocacy, and digital content strategy, with academic research at the intersection of journalism, democracy, climate communication, and disinformation.

I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative projects that connect academia, media, and civil society, with a focus on transparency, sustainability, and informed public debate.
