I am a practitioner-academic currently writing a Routledge-book based upon my PhD thesis (A new platform for quality journalism? A study of four U.S. nonprofit university centers and their attempt to save professional reporting through using classrooms as newsrooms). Before starting to teach at Volda University College in 2010, I worked as a reporter and editor for ten years in newspapers such as Klassekampen, Aftenposten, VG, Farsunds Avis and Universitas. In 2014/2015, I was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at American University, School of Communication, in Washington, DC. In addition to the book, I am working on a project named Robots versus Reporters – studying the implementation of automated news in the Norwegian newsrooms Adresseavisen and NTB. Of general research topics, I am especially interested in the study of professions, professional norms and values, public service reporting, nonprofits, practical knowledge, journalism education and the journalistic knowledge base.
