With a professional background as a journalist and a PhD in Scandinavian languages, I now work as a senior lecturer in journalism at Södertörn University. As a sociolinguist, I investigate language use in society, focusing on narrativity, organizational and strategic communication, and journalism.
I am also affiliated to SCORE, Stockholm Centre for Organizational Research (Stockholm University and Stockholm School of Economics). Together with the organizational researcher Maria Grafström at Score, I conduct a research project titled "With an independent editorial of civil servants" – public organizations as news producers. During the first years of our study, we had a particular interest in the region of Västra Götaland's digital news channel VGRfokus, which was launched in the autumn of 2017. In 2021 we are widening our study to include a national mapping of the extent to which public organizations take on the role of news producers, build up their own editorial staff and start their own news channels, and how local government communicators view this.
Further, I am the project leader of the research project Asylum narratives. In this project, me and two other linguistic researchers investigate how the narrative about the asylum seeker is co-constructed by different actors involved in the asylum process. We also study how oral asylum narratives, constructed in and through asylum interviews, are recontextualized into written texts, i.e., how the oral narratives are reproduced in the agency's case documents.
Previously, I worked as a researcher at The Academy of Public Administration at Södertörn University. Within the research project "The Swedish Transport Administration, a modern agency", I employed a narrative and linguistic perspective focusing on organizational communication, identities, and cultures. I also conducted a linguistic discourse analysis of media texts within a research project on monitoring and scrutinizing schools in Sweden, Poland, and Finland.
The title of my thesis (written in Swedish with a summary in English) is "When organizations tell stories: Narrativity as a resource in strategic communication" (Uppsala University, 2014).
