I am a professor at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and co-heading the research groups MEKK (Media, War and Conflict) at OsloMet University, Norway.
From 2013, I am coordinating a research and development cooperation (Norhed) between the schools of journalism and communication at universities in Uganda, South Sudan and Nepal focusing on post conflict journalism with several researchers and five Phd candidates.
My research interests include global journalism and social media, conflict reporting, freedom of speech, gender and intersectional perspectives, cultural studies, and digital media and information literacy. I have been lecturing and researching in several different countries in Africa and Asia for many years and been a visiting scholar at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa.
I am responsible of the Journalism section at the Norwegian Encyclopedia Store Norske Leksikon, and a member of the Nordicom Scientific Advisory Board (2016 -). I am on the editorial board of Media and Communication, and editorial consultant for Critical Arts and on the international advisory board of Journal of African Media Studies.
