Kristina Riegert is Professor in Journalism at Södertörn university and previously been Professor of Media and Communication at Stockholm University. Her research has mainly focused on how national media, as well as certain locally situated publics, have made sense of globally mediated events, and how the political infuses popular culture. This has entailed an understanding of how media cultivate or complicate: globalization/retrenchment processes, identity formation, war and crisis communication, and the blurred boundaries between information and entertainment. Her interests are in comparative media studies of war and crisis communication, cultural journalism’s contribution to democratic discourse and journalism’s role in climate change.
