About

Marju Himma-Kadakas is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Karlstad. Her research is part of the Ander Centre for Research on News and Opinion in the Digital Era (NODE). She is also a part-time Research Fellow of journalism studies at the University of Tartu, Estonia. She is the Estonian PI at the international project Journalistic Role Performance.
Her research combines studies on news work, journalistic skills, and engagement of young audiences. Currently, she is part of an international media literacy project Social Media Resilience Toolkit SMaRT-EU. In this project, her team develops video content with influencers to promote media literacy between seniors and teenagers. Her studies, teaching, and public speeches contribute to the overall promotion of actions that help people cope with information overload and disorder.
She also has 12 years of experience as a cross-platform science journalist.
