About

Professor Pigga Keskitalo is originally from Utsjoki and currently lives in Enontekiö, northern Finland. She is a Professor of Education with a specific focus on Arctic perspectives on education at the University of Lapland. Keskitalo completed her doctoral degree at the University of Lapland in 2010, focusing on the cultural sensitivity of Sámi schooling. She has previously worked in Sámi teacher education in Norway at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences. In addition, she holds the title of Docent (Adjunct Professor) at the University of Helsinki and serves as Professor II at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences.

Keskitalo’s work emphasizes Arctic education, Sámi languages and pedagogy, digitalisation in Indigenous and northern educational contexts, linguistic and cultural justice, and the participation of children and young people in changing environments. Her research and pedagogical approach draw on community-based and participatory methods that integrate local knowledge, lived experiences, digital tools, and intergenerational perspectives into the development of education.
