His broad reading across fields allows for a unique approach. Having worked as a researcher, research assistant, and media analyst, Roy has acquired expertise in research methods, analysis tools, and a variety of theoretical frameworks. He has been part of multiple research projects were he has analyzed survey data. Besides political and crisis communication, his research interests include media theory, platformization, political trust, and media systems.
