Presentation of Myself and My Research Interests
I am Samuel Oduyela, an award-winning journalist and educator with over 24 years of experience in journalism and more than 15 years of teaching Communication Studies at the college level. I am currently completing my PhD in Journalism at the University of Kent, UK, where my research explores media framing of terrorism, specifically analyzing the portrayal of Boko Haram’s abductions of the Chibok and Dapchi schoolgirls in Nigerian newspapers.
My research interests include media representation, framing theory, intercultural communication, and the intersection of media and societal narratives. I am particularly passionate about understanding how media shapes public perceptions and influences policy decisions, especially in contexts involving marginalized groups and global crises. Through my work, I aim to contribute to equitable and accurate representations in the media while fostering critical awareness among students and the broader public.
As a scholar and practitioner, I am committed to bridging the gap between academia and real-world applications, using my expertise to advance both research and teaching in the field of communication and media studies.
