Sinikka Torkkola, Adjunct Professor

Sinikka Torkkola is a senior research fellow in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University and an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oulu. She has a PhD (2008) in Journalism and Mass Communication in Social Science from the University of Tampere and qualified registered nurse 1985.
Health communication is her main interest, but she has conducted also research on the gender of journalism and political journalism. She has acted as vice chair of the Health Communication Temporary Working Group at IAMCR from 2019 to 2023. Furthermore, Dr. Torkkola worked as a visiting researcher at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain) in 2022, the University of Bucharest (Romania) in 2019, the University of Oregon (USA) in 2014, and Lomosov Moscow State University (Russia) in 2012.
