Call for Papers: 11th International GamiFIN Conference

The GAMIFIN Conference invites researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to submit contributions that advance understanding of gamification, gameful design, motivation management, and their implications for media, communication, technology, organizations, and society. As digital platforms, artificial intelligence, immersive media, and data-driven systems continue to transform everyday life, understanding how gameful mechanisms influence behavior, engagement, learning, participation, and wellbeing has become increasingly important across disciplines.

GAMIFIN is a leading international venue for interdisciplinary scholarship on gamification and related phenomena. The conference provides a forum for presenting innovative research, discussing emerging theories and methods, and fostering collaborations among scholars and practitioners interested in the design, use, governance, and impact of gameful systems. We especially welcome contributions addressing contemporary challenges in digital media, platform societies, AI-enabled engagement systems, sustainability transitions, education, health, work, and public policy.

Researchers from media and communication studies, information systems, human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology, education, management, computer science, design, public policy, and related disciplines are encouraged to participate.

Topics of interest include gamification theory, design and evaluation; gameful user experiences and motivation; user engagement, participation and behavior change; persuasive and motivational technologies; social media, digital platforms and creator economies; platform governance and algorithmic systems; AI-driven personalization and adaptive gamification; virtual, augmented and mixed reality applications; game-based learning and educational technology; learning analytics and digital literacy; health, wellbeing and mental health interventions; workplace motivation and organizational behavior; sustainability and environmental engagement; civic participation; ethical design, dark patterns and manipulation; inclusion, accessibility and diversity; children, youth and vulnerable populations; and regulation and policy perspectives on digital engagement technologies.

GAMIFIN welcomes a variety of submission types. Full papers should present completed and original research with clear theoretical, methodological, or practical contributions. Short papers may report work in progress, exploratory studies, novel concepts, or emerging research agendas. Practitioner papers are welcome from industry, public organizations, and civil society actors seeking to share evidence and lessons learned from applying gamification and gameful design in real-world contexts. The conference also encourages submissions for posters, demonstrations, workshops, and panel discussions.

We encourage methodological diversity and welcome quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, computational, experimental, ethnographic, participatory, design-science, and review-based research. Contributions may focus on conceptual development, empirical investigation, methodological innovation, design frameworks, technological development, critical analyses, or policy implications.

All submissions will undergo peer review and will be evaluated based on originality, relevance, rigor, clarity, and contribution to knowledge and practice. Accepted contributions will be presented during the conference and included in the conference proceedings according to the applicable publication arrangements.

The conference is especially relevant for the NordMedia community, providing a venue for research on digital media, platform governance, audience engagement, communication technologies, online communities, creator cultures, and the societal implications of interactive and motivational systems. Contributions exploring the intersections of media, communication, games, and digital society are particularly encouraged.

We warmly invite the NordMedia community and scholars from across Europe and beyond to contribute to GAMIFIN 2027. Whether your work examines media platforms, digital participation, educational innovation, health behavior change, sustainability transitions, organizational transformation, AI-driven engagement systems, or emerging forms of gameful interaction, we encourage you to submit your research and join this growing international community. We look forward to receiving your submissions and welcoming you to GAMIFIN 2027.
