The eleventh edition of the conference focuses on the cultural and social aspects of the construction and representation of gender and the relations between genders. Without neglecting the dimension of rights and their violations, the event will delve into power asymmetries, issues related to sexuality and reproduction, the role of bodies and implications in sports. Gender identity is influenced by cultural factors that change over time and space, while social norms and gender roles contribute to defining individual and collective expectations and behaviors. Current events show a growing tension between the push towards a binary definition of gender and the recognition of a gender spectrum, which opens up to multiple individual and collective identities and expressions. The battles for LGBTQIA+ rights challenge traditional conceptions and promote greater openness and plurality of recognition.
The eleventh edition will be held online on 22 and 23 September 2025, hosted by the University of Enna «Kore», and in person from 24 to 26 September 2025 at the University of Palermo.
