* Hybrid event
The EU-funded MEDIAdelcom project invites you in Brussels on 15 February to meet leading researchers, academics and media representatives to discuss the future of the media, the need for change, and the role of deliberative communication and deliberative journalism.
With more than 60 major elections scheduled in 2024 worldwide, including in the European Union, and with some arguing democracy itself is at stake, how can the media respond to challenges including disinformation and polarization?
This hybrid event marks the conclusion of the 3-year project MEDIAdelcom – the most comprehensive study of its kind done in Europe identifying the risks and opportunities for deliberative communication in today’s polarized Europe.

- Keynote speaker: Marius Dragomir, Director of the Center for Media Data and Society.
- Discussions will be led by MEDIAdelcom experts
- Professor Eric Heinze, Professor of Law and Humanities at Queen Mary University and author of ‘The Most Human Right: Why Free Speech is Everything’.

About MEDIAdelcom:
MEDIAdelcom is financed by the EU Horizon 2020.
It has been examining various aspects of the media in 14 European countries to determine the risks and opportunities for deliberative communication.
The project findings highlight areas of concern for media practitioners, policy makers and the general public and provide valuable information when it comes to finding ways to prevent or tackle captured media, implementing the European Media Freedom Act, as well as tackling some of the major challenges facing the media, including literacy, polarization, misinformation, and election interference, to name a few. MEDIAdelcom involves 17 teams representing 14 EU countries, from Western as well as Central and Eastern Europe.
