About

I work as a University Lecturer in Journalism and as Vice Rector at the Swedish School of Social Science at the University of Helsinki. Most of my teaching responsibilities cover courses in journalism, journalistic profession and journalistic leadership. I am also part of the The Nordic Collaboration Committee for Journalism Education.

My research interests are multidisciplinary, focusing on the interface between media and language, particularly in minority settings. I am part of the steering committee for The International Association for Minority Language Media Research (IAMLMR). I have written articles about journalists’ views on media’s role for language, language management in media during Covid, and journalism education in a minority language setting. In my doctoral thesis, I studied the spoken standard language in the Finland-Swedish radio and television news and the role of public service media for a minority language. Aside from research about minority language media, I have focused on studying language attitudes, especially among young people, and am currently leading a research project about the language attitudes and social identity of young Swedish-speaking Finns.

In addition, I have written several reports and analysis about media collaboration in Finland. Prior to my academic career, I worked as a journalist in the Finnish public service broadcasting company, Yle.
