Introduction
• Overview of Media Literacy in the Digital Age • Significance of Media Literacy for Critical Thinking and Responsible Digital Citizenship • Role of AI, Social Media, and Mobile Media in Shaping Modern News Consumption • Skills, Competencies, and Ethical Considerations in Media Literacy Skills, competencies, and ethical considerations in media literacy for the 21st century, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence (AI), social media, and news, are essential to foster critical thinking, responsible citizenship, and ethical engagement with digital technologies.
Objective
This textbook aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of media literacy in the context of AI, social media, and digital news, with a strong emphasis on practical strategies, critical evaluation, and responsible digital citizenship. The use of Digital Online Media Literacy Assessment (DOMLA) as a foundational assessment tool is interwoven to align theoretical constructs with applied learning and curriculum design.
Target Audience
The target audience for this text includes media literacy educators at both the university and high school level and reaches instructors in departments of English, Media Studies, Communication, and Education. Additional audiences may come from Computer Science and Information Technology, Education, Library and Information Science, Media and Communications, Social Sciences and Humanities. While the audience is intended to be primarily based in the U.S., there is potential for reaching an international audience is most developed and developing countries, particularly those in English speaking nations.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 8, 2024, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by December 22, 2024 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters of a minimum of 10,000 words (word count includes references and related readings) are expected to be submitted by March 23, 2025, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-anonymized review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Modern Media Literacy: Generative AI, Social Media, and the News. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-anonymized peer review editorial process.
