Senior Lecturer, Corporate Communication

Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Corporate Communication starting 1st August, 2025 or thereafter upon agreement. The position is in effect until further notice. 

The focus of corporate communication discipline is on analyzing and explaining the dynamic interplay between organizations, traditional and digital media, and stakeholders. The corporate communication research group studies organizations in a broad sense, including corporations, small and medium businesses, non-governmental organizations, and public institutions, as well as pressure groups, social movements, and other informal and emerging forms of organizations. The current research areas of the corporate communication group broadly cover strategic communications of and for organizations, Investor relations, public sector communication, social/corporate advocacy, digital communications, stakeholder relationship management, crisis and risk communication, and issue management.

The Senior Lecturer will be part of the Corporate Communication discipline, contributing to the teaching of and research in one or more of the following areas: internal/workplace communication, communication strategy, media relations and digital media, sustainability communication, and ethics. The research profile for this post is expected to match the JSBE focus area of Digital Business and Economy.

The main duties of the Senior Lecturer include teaching and research in the field of organizational and strategic communication. Teaching tasks include high-quality research-based teaching and guidance related to the field of the discipline at the levels of basic, subject, and advanced studies, including supervising bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses.

The person selected for the position is expected to actively participate in the development of teaching as well as acquire external research funding.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an internationally oriented Senior Lecturer. The research profile of the applicant is expected to match the JSBE focus area Digital Business and Economy.

The applicant must have a completed doctoral degree in corporate communication, strategic communication, public relations, or organizational communication. Degrees in related disciplines such as communication science, journalism, media and communication studies, management or marketing are considered if the applicant’s research and teaching experiences demonstrate expertise in the communication-related discipline (e.g., scientific publications in core journals, teaching relevant courses, etc.).

The Senior Lecturer is expected to have all-round familiarity with the discipline and evidence of research-based teaching. Success in acquiring external research funding is considered an advantage. We value high-level publishing, experience in international research teams, and an interest in teaching and supervising master’s theses and research work. Relevant competences and evidence of high-quality research in organizational communication, media relations/digital media and/or sustainability/ethics are also considered an advantage for the applicant. Interest in AI and teaching technologies is seen as beneficial for the position.

The duties and qualification requirements of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines.  The selected candidate is expected to teach in Finnish and/or English. Good proficiency in Finnish and English and the ability to teach in both languages will be considered an advantage. A trial period of six months will be used at the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a Senior Lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6–7 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4100-5500 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

  5. Research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant’s research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant’s current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
  6. A teaching portfolio prepared according to the guidelines, i.e., a written description of pedagogical training and teaching merits (Instructions on the JYU Work with us website).
