The EU Kids Online network, which includes all Nordic countries, has issued a statement cautioning against outright bans on children’s access to social media.
The research group argues that such restrictions could do more harm than good by undermining children’s rights and pushing them toward unregulated digital spaces. Instead of blanket bans, the network calls for evidence-based policies that respect children’s rights while ensuring their online safety.
In its statement, EU Kids Online urges governments and digital platforms to implement safety-by-design measures, strengthen digital literacy education, and develop robust regulatory frameworks to create a safer and more inclusive online environment for children.
