We are very much looking forward to seeing you next week in Odense. While the programme offers many engaging sessions across divisions, we know you might also appreciate a moment to catch your breath. To that end, we have prepared a list of recommended places to visit should you wish to take a break between the conference activities in Denmark’s vibrant third-largest city.
Hans Christian Andersen Museum
An architectural and storytelling landmark, this museum offers a thought-provoking look at Andersen’s legacy, combining immersive design with darker, lesser-known aspects of his fairy tales.

Brandts Klædefabrik & the Art Museum Brandts
Brandts Klædefabrik is a former textile factory, originally established in 1869. After it closed in 1977, it was transformed into a vibrant cultural hub featuring cafés, shops, a cinema, a theater, and several museums.
One of these is Kunst Museum Brandts, located in the old factory buildings. It hosts rotating exhibitions of both classical and contemporary art and is part of a broader museum complex that also includes media and photography art.

The Funen Village (Den Fynske Landsby)
An open-air museum that reconstructs 19th-century rural Danish life. Ideal for a half-day excursion, especially if you’re interested in heritage, architecture, or quiet green spaces.

Odense Harbour and Riverfront
The revitalised harbour area is a pleasant setting for a walk or a meal, while the Odense Å river offers canoe rentals and boat tours past parks, the zoo, and historic villas.

Gallery Galschiøt – Popular Protest Art
Gallery Galschiøt is a unique combination of a working studio, sculpture park, and exhibition space, led by renowned Danish artist Jens Galschiøt. Known for his powerful and provocative protest art, Galschiøt uses sculpture as a medium to challenge political injustice, economic inequality, and human rights violations. His works – often large-scale and deeply symbolic – have appeared in public spaces around the world, from Copenhagen to Hong Kong. The gallery offers a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process and showcases the impact of art as a form of activism.

Storms Pakhus
A lively indoor street-food hall housed in a former warehouse, popular with locals and visitors alike. Perfect for a relaxed lunch or evening drink with fellow conference attendees.

Moreover, between 14 and 17 August, the city will be in full bloom with its annual Odense Flower Festival. More details are available here.
